Cleaning Your Granite

Cleaning your granite should be performed daily, just as you would with any other type of countertop. You should wipe down your counters daily with a damp cloth to remove crumbs and other debris. Clean up spills immediately, and never leave standing water on your counters. Use soapy water to sanitize and clean the entire countertops At least once per week, removing any dust or debris that your dishcloth left behind. For a deeper clean, use a granite cleaner to keep your granite countertops looking shiny and prevent dullness caused by soap and water, especially if your water systems produce hard water.

Sealing Your Granite

Seal your granite counters at least once per year using a granite sealer. To do this, you will need to deep clean your granite and scrape away anything that has built up onto the granite to prevent sealing the debris into your countertop. Once clean, use the granite sealer according to the manufacturer's instructions and apply it to your countertop. Work from one end of your counter to the other, working in small sections at a time, sealing it with the same amount of sealer to give it a cohesive and even look. Be sure to seal the edges and backsplash as well. Allow the sealer to set before putting anything back onto your counters.
